SHELTER ISLAND, NEW YORK

Blue Han reflects Korean emotion shaped by resilience and hope, expressed through a calm, soulful atmosphere.

OUR STORY

Where Korean Tradition Meets Island Life

Blue Han is a Korean kitchen and café located within Shelter Island House, created for guests, locals, and visitors seeking a warm and thoughtful dining experience. Inspired by Korean tradition and the calm rhythm of island life, Blue Han offers simple, balanced meals designed to nourish and comfort.

FOUNDER STORY

A Journey of Dedication, Creativity & Resilience

Blue Han is deeply personal. Founded by Annie Kim, who came to the United States from South Korea over 21 years ago, it reflects a journey built through dedication, creativity, and resilience. After years of building a beauty business in Greenport and Sag Harbor, Annie brings her heritage into a new expression — through food, hospitality, and space.

Family has been the foundation of this journey. Their support, belief, and presence made Blue Han possible. This restaurant is not only a business, but a reflection of gratitude, connection, and shared dreams.

PHILOSOPHY

Clarity & Intention

At Blue Han, food is presented with clarity and intention.

Many dishes are served on a single tray — a reflection

of balance, simplicity, and care. Each element is

thoughtfully prepared to create a complete and

satisfying experience without excess.

We believe in mindful eating — where ingredients are

chosen with purpose and meals are enjoyed with

presence. Rooted in Korean food culture, our approach

focuses on harmony, nourishment, and the quiet

pleasure of a well-prepared dish.

CAFÉ EXPERIENCE

A Softer Moment

Blue Han also offers a café experience centered on Korean traditional teas and light desserts. It is a space to slow down, pause, and enjoy a softer moment within the day.

ART & INTERIOR

At Blue Han, we present the work of Ralph Gibson.

A defining voice in contemporary photography, his images are recognized for their precision, restraint, and enduring visual language. Through light, shadow, and form, his work distills moments into something essential—at once intimate and timeless.

Gibson’s connection to South Korea is reflected through the Gibson | Goeun Museum of Photography at the Goeun Museum of Photography. This presence extends his work into a broader cultural dialogue. At Blue Han, it exists as part of the environment—where art, space, and experience come into quiet alignment.
